East & North Tackle Cancer 2014
The Event
In 2014, Appleton East and Appleton North joined forces in the East & North Tackle Cancer event. The Key clubs at both schools played a pivotal role in helping with the organiztion and fundraising.
With both schools combining their efforts, the event raised the largest total yet. The total amount of funds raised amounted to over $31,000 that went to help cancer research.
The Game
The 2014 matchup between Appleton East and Appleton North was an instant classic. The Patriots jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first half. The Lightning responded in the second half with a touchdown and a safety. In the end, it was a Derrick Elsinger forced fumble (recovered by East) in the final minutes that sealed the 10-9 win for East.
Along with Elsinger, the East defense was lead by Bennett Groves who had 11 tackles and 2 interceptions. Seth Berven had 153 yards passing and a touchdown, while Gabe Heindel added 67 yards rushing to lead the Patriot offense.
