Appleton East Tackles Cancer
About
The Appleton East Tackles Cancer Game and Event began in 2012 as a way for the football program to give back to the community for the time, energy, and support (both financial and otherwise). It was also introduced as a way to honor former players, former coaches, and friends we have lost to this horrible disease. The game continues because of the success of the first event back in 2012, not just from a fundraising standpoint, but an emotional and support standpoint. If you have ever participated in the event or know anyone that has dealt with cancer, the event brings strong emotions every time the Survivors Walk begins. The game and event is a way to honor those people, to raise funds to fight this disease, and a way for all of us to come together with hope.
Each year, the event has been an inspriational and unique experience. Click on the links to see how the event has evolved over the years:
Fundraising
Raising funds to help battle cancer has been one of the key points in the East Tackles Cancer Event. Beneficiaries of the event have included the MACC Fund, American Cancer Society and the Make-a-Wish Program. Raffles, silent auctions, sponsorships, t-shirt sales, and relay for life have all helped to raise funds for this event.
The Appleton Key club, led by Amy Loritz plays a key role in the Appleton East Tackles Cancer event. They put forth a tremendous amount of time and effort to make each event an incredible experience.
Luminaries
A luminary can be purchased in support of or in honor of any person. The Luminaries light the path for hope and rememberance for the Survivor Walk.
Survivors Walk
At the conclusion of the game, there is an opportunity for survivors, family members, friends, and care givers to walk with or in honor of someone that has dealt with cancer. The Walk is a lap around Pickett Field to recognize together the challenge and hope that we all share.
