East Tackles Cancer 2013
The Event
This first event held in 2012 turned out to be a huge success in terms of increasing awareness and bringing together those that have been effected by cancer. In it's second year, 2013, the event was able to more than triple the amount of funds raised to fight this horrible disease, raising over $18,000. The number of people participating in the Relay for life and the Survivors Walk, continued to grow and offer hope to everyone in the fight agains cancer.
The Game
The East-West game has tradionally been a hard-fought and hard-hitting contest. The 2013 contest was no different. The first half saw East put up the first two scores when Nathaniel Emrick rushed for a 17-yard touchdown and Cole Krause added a 2-yard score to put East up 13-0. Appleton West responded with a 60-yard Herbst to Reader touchdown pass to make the game 13-6 at half. After a scoreless 3rd quarter, East pulled away behind the power of it's running attack. In total, the Patriots rushed for 276 yards and 4 touchdowns on 51 carries to give East the 27-13 win over the Terrors. Leading the Patriot ground game were Emrick with 88 yards and 2 td's, Cole Krause with 97 yards and a td, and Gabe Heindel with 89 rushing yards.
