The Event

The East Tackles Cancer began in 2012 as a way for the football program give back to the community for the time, energy, and support (both financially and otherwise).   It also was began as a result of the experiences of former players, former coaches, and friends that have had to deal with this horrible disease.  The success of the first event in 2012, both from a financial standpoint and an emotional standpoint, has allowed the event to continue to grow and provide resources for others as well as bringing emotional support to all of those involved.

The Game

In the first quarter, East jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Tony Bauer rushed for a 3 yard score, putting the Patriots up 7-0.  The rest of the first half did not go the Patriots way as D. C. Everest scored 17 straight points to lead East, 17-7 at the break.  In the third quarter, the teams exchanged touchdowns.  As time began to wind down late in the 4th quarter, the Patriots trailed 24-15.  That changed with Garrett Peterson's 2 yard touchdown run, making the score 24-21.  With time running out, the Patriot defense stepped up behind a key 3rd down open-field tackle by Connor Lampert that prevented what would have been a game-clinching first down by the Evergreens.  East forced a punt and with under a minute to go, Tyler Piehl connected with Mitchell Ourada for a 36-yard pass that put East into scoring position.  Two plays later, Piehl once again connected with Ourada for the 4-yard touchdown, giving East the 27-24 victory over D. C. Everest in the games final seconds.
